Day 3: What Drives Your Life?

What is drive?

drive |drīv|
verb ( past drove |drōv|; past part. driven |ˈdrivən|)
- propel or carry along by force in a specified direction : the wind will drive you onshore.

So, what propels you? What carries you along in life? Is it: guilt, resentment/anger, fear, materialism, need for approval? These are all negative drives, they drive alright but there is a big side-effect to them: they always hurt YOU.

For example, being driven by resentment and anger will make you bitter, grumpy and easily ticked off. Fear will cause you to miss heaps of opportunities because you aren't courageous enough to step out. Being driven by the need for approval will cause you to have depressing days when people don't recognise your works. They are all sad consequences of being driven by the wrong motives.

So, is there a way to be driven by the right thing? That has no side-effects?

YES. Purpose.

Knowing your purpose will:

1. Give meaning to your life
We've gone through this. Without God, there is no purpose, without purpose there is no meaning to life. I certainly don't want to drift aimlessly in life!

2. Simplifies your life
With a purpose in life, you have a mission. Missions have clear cut objectives and with those objectives you'll know what exactly you have to do and not end up doing everything!

3. Focuses your life
You'll be able to concentrate your effort and energy on things that are important. Without a purpose, you'll end up changing externals like jobs, relationships, church without ever finding it solving you problems!

4. Motivates your life
Nothing energises like a clear purpose, it gives you the drive in the morning when you wake up. No, coffee SHOULD NOT be the main kick in the morning! :)

5. Prepares you for eternity
We'll be having an entrance exam at the end when Jesus comes again...and there are only 2 questions:

"What have you done with my Son, Jesus Christ?"
Have you accepted Christ as your Lord and Saviour? If not...boy, you're gonna fail this entrance exam. So take the first step NOW! This gurantees you a pass!

"What have you done with your life? With the gifts I have given you?"
This question determines your final mark...a Pass, Credit, Distinction or High Distinction. It determines what you'll be doing for eternity. So, act NOW! Start living your life for God!

I certainly want a HD in this entrance exam! So I'm definitely gonna start finding out my purpose and living a life that God has purposed for me! A fish loves swimming, an eagle loves flying...we too have a purpose! Let's go!
